New FCC Commissioners on Tap at NAB Radio Show

WASHINGTON, DC -- Commissioners Meredith Attwell Baker and Mignon Clyburn, the newest members of the Federal Communications Commission, will each speak during the 2009 NAB Radio Show, held September 23-25 in Philadelphia.

Commissioners Baker and Clyburn are expected to discuss regulatory issues impacting the radio business and their priorities as new members of the agency. Commissioner Clyburn will give opening remarks during the “Changing of the Guard: How the New FCC Will Affect Your Station” session, held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in the Pennsylvania Convention Center. Commissioner Baker will engage in a one-on-one interview during the FCC Breakfast on Friday, September 25 at 7:30 a.m.

“NAB is honored to have Commissioners Baker and Clyburn join us at the NAB Radio Show,” said NAB Executive Vice President Dennis Wharton. “We look forward to hearing their insight on a host of issues impacting local radio broadcasters across America.”

Commissioner Baker most recently served as Acting Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Communications and Information and Acting Administrator of the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA). In her role, Baker advised and represented the executive branch on telecommunications and information policy activities. She also served on delegations representing the United States at major international telecommunications conferences.

Commissioner Clyburn joins the FCC from the Public Service Commission (PSC) of South Carolina, where she spent 11 years as the representative of South Carolina’s sixth district. Prior to that, Clyburn was the publisher and general manager of The Coastal Times, a family-founded weekly newspaper focusing on issues affecting the African American community.
