ADVA FSP 150 delivers intelligent Ethernet services and increased network management to customers throughout the U.K.

ADVA Optical Networking today announced that BT’s UK-based access network arm, Openreach, is deploying the ADVA FSP 150, featuring Etherjack® technology, throughout its national Ethernet Access Direct (EAD) services. Using a range of intelligent Ethernet services, Openreach’s customers will now be able to perform last-mile test and diagnostics with unparalleled flexibility, control and management. The deployment will provide Openreach’s customers with a greater understanding of their Openreach-supplied network infrastructure and performance than ever before.

“The ADVA FSP 150 will play a key role in the success of Openreach’s EAD services,” stated Bill Jones, general manager, Connectivity Services Product Management at Openreach. “ADVA Optical Networking has a proven track record of helping us to meet our customer and regulatory demands, delivering innovative and effective network solutions that answer real industry needs. The ADVA FSP 150 provides our customers with previously unattainable levels of network intelligence and management.”

Designed to supersede Openreach’s current Ethernet offerings, EAD will deliver point-to-point fixed symmetrical Ethernet bandwidth services ranging from 10Mbit/s to 1,000Mbit/s. Stretching across distances of 35km radial and up to a maximum of 66km route fiber, these new cost-effective services will form the foundation of Openreach’s next-generation service roll out and will complement Openreach’s Ethernet Backhaul Direct (EBD) and Bulk Transport Link (BTL) products.

The ADVA FSP 150 provides Openreach and its customers with intelligent Ethernet demarcation, stringent monitoring of data across the last mile, verification of strict Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and advanced remote Operations, Administration and Maintenance (OAM). Offering such levels of service intelligence will empower Openreach’s customers to proactively monitor their services and independently diagnose and rectify any problems that may arise.

“Openreach is continually striving to provide its customers with the most competitive and intelligent services available,” commented Reg Armitage, ADVA Optical Networking’s senior vice president sales. “With the launch of the EAD services, Openreach has taken its Ethernet offerings to a new level, providing not only more agile provisioning for customers, but also far greater testing and diagnostics functionality.”

ADVA Optical Networking is currently the only vendor to provide Ethernet access devices into Openreach’s EAD services. The ADVA FSP 150 was tested and approved by BT Design and has recently undergone a successful Technology Introduction within BT’s network. BT Design will continue to work closely with ADVA Optical Networking to ensure continued integration and quality control.

The ADVA FSP 150 is compliant with all standard Institute of Electronics and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) specifications, including the latest 802.3ah (Ethernet in the First Mile, EFM) and 802.1ag (Connectivity Fault Management, CFM) specifications. It features compliance with the new ITU-T Y.1731 standard for advanced Ethernet OAM, and has also been rigorously designed for Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) compliance.
