Tuesday, February 28 2006, Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERICY) and KPN have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the roll-out of a high speed mobile broadband network based on HSDPA for both KPN and Telfort in the Netherlands. Ericsson will be the sole supplier for the 3G radio access of these networks.

Marco Visser, COO of KPN Mobile the Netherlands: “The main reason for selecting Ericsson is that they will provide us with the capability to launch HSDPA technology before the end of this year.”

Nils De Baar, President, Ericsson in the Netherlands, says: “We are very proud to provide KPN and Telfort with our advanced HSDPA technology, which will allow them to offer advanced mobile services to consumers. Being selected as 3G radio network and HSDPA sole supplier confirm our long lasting partnership.”

Broadband is now breaking new ground in Europe and operators can offer advanced mobile multi media services for both private and enterprise consumers. Ericsson has a clear lead in this field – most HSDPA networks rolled out today are powered by Ericsson.

Ericsson’s HSDPA solution is offering bandwidth similar to ADSL and will enable peak download speeds of 14.4 Mbps. The advanced technology offers operators more than double the system capacity of WCDMA and dramatically shortens response times for interactive services, drastically improving the end user’s experience when using broadband services.

With Ericsson’s solution, operators can deploy HSDPA within their existing WCDMA frequency carrier and offer continuous HSDPA coverage throughout their entire networks.

PC cards are available today and handsets will be available later this year.

Ericsson is shaping the future of Mobile and Broadband Internet communications through its continuous technology leadership. Providing innovative solutions in more than 140 countries, Ericsson is helping to create the most powerful communication companies in the world.
