FemaleGamers.co.uk prepares to celebrate first birthday
This September will be a big month for FemaleGamers.co.uk as they celebrate one year online. The site originally launched in September 2008 as Mandarin Duck’s Games for Girls. Although it was well received, the site owner, Donna Haw, began to feel that the design and focus of the site didn’t quite meet what readers wanted. The site was relaunched in June 2009 as FemaleGamers.co.uk with a much sleeker, more adult theme and the response has been fantastic. Donna Haw advised, “We know that casual gaming is popular and there are some brilliant casual titles out there but it’s important to recognise that female gamers, like males, enjoy games across all genres. We want to make sure we’re offering something for everyone.” Despite the name FemaleGamers.co.uk also receives a number of male visitors, one of whom recently commented “This is too good to keep to the girls”.
