Women’s Conference Mixes Business with Pleasure
“Our Time to Shine” is the theme for this year’s Women in Business Summit sponsored by Boomer Diva Nation. The Second Annual Event will take place October 15-18, 2009 at the Raleigh Marriott City Center in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Guest speakers from North Carolina, Florida, Georgia, Maryland and New York will share their experiences in becoming small business owners and offer tips and resources to help fellow women. Topics include: “Do I Need to Think Like a Man to be Successful in Business?”, “From Marketing Misfit to Marketing Maven”, Publish and Be Profitable, “Following Your Passion to Success.”
Women can also get in tune with their bodies with a Zumba workout and enjoy a pamper me mini spa.
“We want the spotlight to shine brightly on women in business---especially small business owners because they are the ones who have made and continue to make many sacrifices to keep their businesses and personal lives afloat,” says Boomer Diva Nation President and Durham resident Beverly Mahone.
There will also be a first-ever all women’s social media summit during the weekend’s events. “We felt it was really important to add this component to the conference because of the popularity of online social networking, says Mahone. “It’s a well known fact that men network differently than women so we put together an all female panel to discuss what works for women and what we need to do to leverage our positions on places like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, MySpace, etc.”
On the fun side, there will be a What Not to Wear Fashion Show to show women what’s NOT hot after 40 and a trivia pursuit contest between women of the different generations. There will also be musical and comedy entertainment. The highlight of the weekend will be the Over 40 Pa-jamming Party and karaoke contest.
All participants will receive a Divine-ly Diva-licious gift bag with donated items valued at several hundred dollars. Several business visa gift cards will be given away and one woman will walk away with a scholarship to assist her with her business.
A portion of the proceeds will benefit the American Heart Association and a local women’s group.
