ACEnet Services edition simplifies remote management and lowers the total cost of ownership for wireless M2M deployments

VANCOUVER, Canada – Sierra Wireless (NASDAQ: SWIR - TSX: SW) today announced the latest enhancement to its suite of ACEware™ web-based device management platforms, ACEnet Services edition. Using a software-as-a-service (SaaS) model, ACEnet Services offers customers a secure hosted platform to comprehensively configure, control and manage their entire deployment of AirLink devices using a standard web browser.

ACEnet Services edition leverages nearly a decade’s worth of Sierra Wireless experience and proven success in providing comprehensive remote management for unattended devices in field locations and provides customers a fully functional enterprise-grade remote management platform that easily scales as the customer deployment grows.

As is the case with the entire ACEware suite, ACEnet Services edition is tightly integrated with ALEOS™ embedded intelligence, which powers the AirLink product line and provides session persistence, embedded machine protocols, extensive routing features, IP security and many other key features. Coupled with ALEOS, ACEnet enables customers to monitor device status and performance on demand as well as configure and control their AirLink devices – whether they manage a handful of gateways or thousands at once – using a single interface from anywhere with Internet connectivity.

Long term reliability and simplicity are cornerstones of every successful M2M deployment. The common software platform across the AirLink product line simplifies the deployment for IT teams by enabling them to configure and manage all of their AirLink devices from a single interface. For customers with broad M2M implementations, this translates into managing different types of devices (in-vehicle platforms, M2M gateways and enterprise routers) with one application, which drastically reduces cycle times and cost.

“Launching a comprehensive hosted ACEnet Services offering is an exciting and significant milestone for Sierra Wireless, our channel and our customers,” said Justin Schmid, vice president of the Mobile and M2M Group for Sierra Wireless. “In a time when companies are particularly interested in working more efficiently and reducing both capital and operating expenses, this powerful, yet easy-to-use remote management service can help our customers quickly realize that objective and lower the total cost of ownership of their wireless M2M solutions.”

Simple Access to Rich Feature Set

ACEnet Services edition is a powerful browser-based remote management platform that simplifies managing complex M2M solutions by combining a very rich feature set with the simplicity of a hosted platform. By providing IT managers with a summary view of the real-time status of all deployed gateways and routers, ACEnet Services empowers them to monitor and manage their entire solution. Since different types of devices have different configuration needs, managers can assign group settings and apply specific firmware and rules to various gateways and routers. Users can set up multiple schedules to perform firmware updates and configuration changes for targeted groups of devices, and these schedules can be set up as either a one-time or a recurring event. Finally, ACEnet Services edition offers a secure login for each authorized user, which an administrator can set for varying levels of access.

Scalable Remote Management

When deploying a cellular M2M solution, scalability is a key attribute to consider. Customers can remotely access and manage individual AirLink intelligent gateways and routers with ACEmanager, the remote configuration utility embedded in ALEOS and included in each AirLink product. However, as an M2M solution commercializes and becomes a critical part of daily operations, there is an increased need to efficiently manage the entire deployment, making ACEnet Services essential. Given the high degree of integration and commonality, the transition from ACEmanager to ACEnet Services edition has been designed to be seamless and simple for customers.

Beta trials of ACEnet Services edition are underway and support for ACEnet Services is included with all currently shipping AirLink gateways and routers. Commercial terms are expected to be available in late 2009.
