WEBWIRE

At the 2009 Annual Latinos in Information Science and Technology Association Legislative Technology Forum in Washington, DC, Latino IT professionals and Technology business owners of the public, private and non-profit sector took part in visits with Congressional and Administration officials. Dr. Ilieva Ageenko, the author of Connecting My Dots (www.connectingmydots.info), was among the IT leaders that came to discuss technology issues affecting the Hispanic community and the need to establish mentoring program to increase the number of Latinos in STEM careers.

At the final ceremony, Dr. Ageenko awarded a copy of her book to the US Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis. These women leaders share the same passion for mentoring young women and during the event they talked about the importance of developing mentoring programs that will encourage Latinas to consider careers in STEM fields.

An inspirational, yet practical guide, Connecting My Dots teaches readers to apply the same leadership skills employed in the workplace to other aspects of life. Ageenko offers sage advice and solutions to the problems facing professional women every day. “Young women need practical leadership advice and mentoring guidance to succeed in the global economy while achieving their personal goals, a mentor will give us advice and help us to find new solutions because they will see things from a different perspective,” explained Dr. Ageenko during a 2009 Women Leader Conference at UNC of Charlotte.

Ilieva I. Ageenko, PhD has 25-year career of successful leadership and professional achievements working at Fortune 500 companies. In 2006, Ageenko was the recipient of LISTA National Latino Award in banking. She is the Chair of Mentoring programs NCTA WISE where she launched a professional mentoring program for women in STEM fields.
