Cash for Clunkers Consumer Checklist Save Consumers Time

The Cash for Clunkers consumer checklist is now available online. The checklist was designed to save consumers time in qualifying for the CARS program as well as submitting their purchase for reimbursement at a local new car dealer. Consumers are encouraged to download or print the checklist before going to their local dealer.

Confusion over the Cash for Clunkers program still exists, although the NHTSA released their final rules over a week ago. Many car dealers across the country have said that buyers are still not sure of what paper work they need to bring or whether or not their vehicle qualifies for a CARS credit.

Consumers can now print or download the checklist which will clearly list what is required of them to bring when they visit their local dealer. The checklist also outlines steps to take to determine whether or not their clunker will qualify for the program.
The Cash for Clunkers program (CARS) was nearly running on empty last week after thousands of car buyers took advantage of the government’s incentive to purchase a new, more fuel efficient car.

In a last minute decision to save the program, the House agreed to pump another $2 billion of funding into the bill. The Senate will take up the additional funding request this week.

Now that the bill has been revived, consumers who have not yet taken advantage of the program can still do so until the extra funding runs out. Consumers should not delay their purchases.

To learn whether or not a car will qualify for the program, as well as the necessary documents that are required to bring to a dealership, consumers can visit or you can visit the only official destination for information on the Car Allowance Rebate System (CARS) at
