Scalable, simplified and cost-effective approach consolidates Oracle IT infrastructures, allowing organizations to start small and grow

Munich, Fujitsu today announces the new version of FlexFrame for Oracle , enabling enterprise customers to deploy Dynamic Infrastructures using Oracle technology. The new version of FlexFrame for Oracle integrates Oracle VM to provide high availability across both physical and virtual servers.

The new FlexFrame for Oracle extends the solution’s availability to customers who need to start small and grow. Greater flexibility is built in as FlexFrame for Oracle is designed to scale dynamically with customers’ Oracle installations, always providing the maximum levels of high availability. Also new in FlexFrame for Oracle are value-add features such as application awareness and priority management.

FlexFrame for Oracle is an efficient solution providing a pre-integrated IT infrastructure that dynamically assigns server resources to Oracle services based on Oracle database, Oracle application servers or any other Oracle application. All Oracle software, plus the operating system, reside on a central storage system and can be started on any server in the FlexFrame pool within minutes. FlexFrame for Oracle drastically reduces installation and maintenance efforts and automatically manages quality of service. Should a server fail, the Oracle service is automatically restarted on another server.

By integrating Oracle VM, virtualization technology that is fully certified to run Oracle products, FlexFrame for Oracle provides better resource utilization and higher granularity. Organizations can integrate Oracle databases running with Oracle applications as well as non-Oracle applications such as SAP into FlexFrame for Oracle scenarios. In addition, customers have the flexibility to choose to implement a software or hardware disaster recovery architecture that works best for their specific project. FlexFrame for Oracle can reduce the total cost of ownership by up to 60 percent. Furthermore, compared to the energy costs of their traditional environments, organizations can save up to 70 percent on energy with the FlexFrame for Oracle environment.

The new version of FlexFrame for Oracle includes a number of value-add features. Application awareness provides monitoring capabilities for Oracle services and a live check with configurable restart/reboot options. In addition, it integrates into standard Data Center management processes and connects to SNMP network management systems. The new version also features increased service availability with priority management that introduces service priorities, failover and displacement rules.

Fujitsu offers a comprehensive set of integration services to help the customer plan, implement and introduce FlexFrame for Oracle. As part of the maintenance service, Fujitsu offers a Solution Contract, which means that the customer has one single contact point for all problems within the solution. An optional ROI service shows and verifies the savings that customers receive from the solution.

Later in 2009, Fujitsu will introduce further enhancements to FlexFrame for Oracle, which will provide native support for the newest server and storage technologies. In addition, Virtual IO Manager (VIOM) allows customers to manage multiple storage systems in LAN and SAN environments and reduces complexity by introducing virtualized physical network addresses, which makes it easier to reallocate resources between virtual machines.

Rolf Strotmann, Vice President Enterprise Servers and Software at Fujitsu Technology Solutions says: “The introduction of the new FlexFrame for Oracle release is the result of more than 15 years of collaboration between Fujitsu and Oracle. This solution consolidates Oracle environments to provide one infrastructure for all Oracle services. Now by integrating with Oracle VM, we can ensure high availability for both real and virtual servers.”

Monica Kumar, Senior Director, Linux, Virtualization and Open Source Product Marketing from Oracle says: “With the ability to support virtual environments, Fujitsu’s unique FlexFrame for Oracle technology allows businesses to start small and add new services gradually as they grow. We are excited to partner with Fujitsu to bring these benefits to our customers.”

FlexFrame for Oracle is available across EMEA and in the U.S. regions.
