Betty Arnold, a theater actress, sets out to find her own destiny in Shirley Sprague’s novel, Morning 1808: Boston Harbor.

Morning 1808 begins with an English theater troupe lead by Mrs. Elizabeth Arnold. The troupe is hired by Charles Stuart Powell to star in the reopening of the Boston theater. As the troupe debuts on stage, Betty, Mrs. Arnolds daughter, becomes entangled with John Howard Payne. Betty makes her own debut on stage, receiving favorable feedback. Soon after, a tragic accident kills her mother. Betty is left to figure out her future and survive on her own.
