Big Hearted Doctor Bucks Trend

Whilst doctor’s fees are set to rise in November via recommendations from the AMA there are overwhelming reports of GPs making a mass exodus from the bulk billing system. Meanwhile Geelong doctor Emmanuel Nnopu is bucking the trend insisting that excellent quality health care needs to come before profits and the perception that Bulk Billing as a sub-standard model of care needs to change.
 
Dr. Nnopu says some people have this idea that the bulk billing system is a lesser quality medical care that is all about quick and easy doctor’s visits, which is far from the truth.
 
“Our clinics are the complete opposite, my lifetime goal has been to bring the most excellent and thorough health care to everyone, regardless of income. Health care should not ever be about money, it should be about people and never compromising standards,” he said.
 
For Dr. Emmanuel Nnopu; this is not an unusual sentiment. The Nigerian doctor has had philanthropy and empathy at his core since childhood.  It was in his birthplace of Nigeria that his family doctor had quite an impact on young Emmanuel.  The older doctor’s friendly disposition and rapport with patients spurred the young Emmanuel on to years of dedicated study and perseverance to care for others in the best way he could- providing medical assistance as a doctor. This lead to specialist programs and an extensive career providing health care to those in need including medical outreach stations in remote areas of Fiji, where some patients may not have had access to doctors for years if not ever.
 
After relocating with his young family to Australia to practice, he could see a similar need in the community of Geelong- to provide excellent, trustworthy and family friendly medical and dental care at a rate that was affordable and accessible to everyone, regardless of income.
 
The doctor’s goal is to provide more outreach to remote areas and bring quality health to those without it.
