Memoir Inspired by a Mother’s Incomparable Strength Featured in Chicago

Every Cook Can Govern: At Friendship and Kay Street by Cynthia Hamilton was showcased in the recently concluded Book Expo America 2016 in Chicago. This book is described as part-autobiography, part tribute, part-polemics and was written after Hamilton witnessed her elderly mother’s fighting spirit.

Hamilton’s mother overcame a blood clot and autoimmune skin disease at the age of ninety-six. Out of these events Hamilton started tracing back at her life and decided to write this book. The book details Hamilton’s life as a student, battle with multiple sclerosis, her advocacy in the community, and the struggles she shared with her mother, who was sickly most of the time.

The book celebrates a mother and daughter’s triumph over life’s obstacles. Their story of hope and poignant memories indulge readers. Hamilton intends it to be a delight to everyone who is need of affirmation and encouragement as they take on their individual life journey.

This book was displayed in LitFire’s booth during the Book Expo America last May 11 to 13, 2016. The event was held at McCormick Place in Chicago, Illinois.

About the Author

Cynthia Hamilton, PhD is Professor Emeritus at the University of Rhode Island. She is a scholar/activist and a multiple scleroses survivor. She also taught at several universities from California to Massachusetts.
