Poignant Memoir of Vietnamese Immigrant Presented During BEA 2016

Yen Schulman details her life during war-time Vietnam and after moving to America in her book, From Saigon to San Diego. Schulman cooperated with LitFire to showcase this memoir in the biggest book fair in America.

From Saigon to San Diego is a raw documentation of a Vietnamese woman’s exploits. Schulman does an honest reiteration of how she fell in love with an American, escaped the war and left her children in Saigon, and the difficulties she had to experience as a Vietnamese immigrant in America. Her personal, family, and cultural struggles all lead her to live a life of hope and faith in God, and this is what she wants to share with her readers.

Schulman’s memoir enlightens readers about family dynamics, cultural heritage, and historic periods. More importantly, it “reminds [readers] that life is a series of struggles that can be overcome,” an Amazon reviewer says.

This book was displayed in LitFire’s booth during the Book Expo America and was enjoyed by readers and other attendees. The event was held last May 11 to 13, 2016 at McCormick Place in Chicago, Illinois.
