We are truly fortunate to have Marguerite as a member of our team. As a community dedicated to enhancing the lives of those living with dementia, we all benefit from her experience, knowledge and skills. - Cheryl Martin, Executive Director of Lakeside Park in Oakland, Calif.

Memory care expert and Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) Marguerite Manteau-Rao recently signed dozens of copies of Caring for a Loved One with Dementia, her new book hot off the press from New Harbinger, at a well attended Fireside Chat at Lakeside Park memory care community in Oakland, Calif. Guests included Lakeside Park associates, families of Lakeside Park residents and professional colleagues from throughout the East Bay.

A licensed social worker, Huffington Post contributor and frequent speaker on memory care and dementia, Manteau-Rao additionally is the Founder of Mindfulness-Based Dementia Care (MBDC), an innovative approach to dementia care first incubated at the University of California of San Francisco Osher Center for Integrative Medicine. Marguerite currently spends most of her time as Co-Founder of Neurocern, a digital health startup aimed at bringing neuroscience into dementia care.  Neurocern is a dementia diagnostic and care management software solution for hospital providers.

For four years running, Manteau-Rao has served as Lakeside Park’s Clinical Supervisor for the LEAP (Learning Engagement Advocacy and Person Centered) Intern program. Interns in this program are Masters graduates obtaining their requisite clinical hours under Manteau-Rao’s supervision.

“The intern team offers an additional, and essential layer of support for the residents, families, and staff at Lakeside Park,” said Manteau-Rao. “It has been an honor working with this group of interns and seeing them blossom into highly-skilled and passionate clinicians, ready to make their mark in the dementia field.”

“We are truly fortunate to have Marguerite as a member of our team. As a community dedicated to enhancing the lives of those living with dementia, we all benefit from her experience, knowledge and skills,” said Lakeside Park executive director Cheryl Martin.

Having  had the personal experience of observing and interacting with her own mother living with dementia, Manteau-Rao became passionate around training caregivers and finding new ways to address a growing challenge for families and society at large. Her new book, her first, is a mindfulness-based guide for reducing caregiver stress and making the best of the journey.

In addition to receiving copies of the book, guests of Lakeside Park’s Fireside Chat learned from Manteau-Rao how five minutes of mindful meditation at the start of a shift or the day with a loved one can help caregivers lower their stress and provide the best possible care.
