Philanthropic Foundations Support Camp Erin San Diego for Grieving Children and Teens

Annual camp is hosted by the Center for Compassionate Care of The Elizabeth Hospice

San Diego, CA USA – WEBWIRE

Each year more than 100 children and teens have the opportunity to attend Camp Erin San Diego, thanks to the generous donations from local philanthropic groups. Camp Erin San Diego 2016 was held June 3-5 with 115 children, ages 6-17, in attendance.

The Elizabeth Hospice is grateful to the following contributors for generously supporting these children through their sponsorship to Camp Erin San Diego 2016 and Children’s Grief Services: Blanchard for Others: $1,000, Enterprise Holdings: $2,000, Rob Benzon Foundation: $5,500, The Gerald T. and Inez Parker Foundation: $10,000.

The Center for Compassionate Care of The Elizabeth Hospice hosts Camp Erin San Diego each year in partnership with The Moyer Foundation.  This annual weekend summer camp is open to children and teens who are grieving the death of someone close to them. This camp experience is free of charge and combines traditional, high-energy camp activities with grief support and education.

“The Elizabeth Hospice appreciates the contributions in support of Camp Erin San Diego and our Children’s Grief Services that include peer support and school-based support groups,” said Jan Jones, President and CEO of The Elizabeth Hospice. “Camp Erin and our Children’s Grief Services are a true gift for children who have experienced the loss of someone close to them. It provides these children an opportunity to explore and express feelings while memorializing the person who died.”

The lasting impact that Camp Erin San Diego is evident best described by a recent 15 year old camper’s experience: “I poured out my heart to people that I’ve only just met and they didn’t judge me. I felt that I can trust these people and it was a real confidence booster.”
