“We’re concerned for our own goals for success in the mainstream society. We push forth without much thought of how different we are, until a door slams in front of our face, and life takes us down a different path when it’s least expected.”

The life of Rosalie Contino turned around when she had to take the responsibility of taking care of her schizophrenic sixty-one-year-old brother, Bob. She shares their story through a memoir, As Life Goes On: Lessons One Doesn’t Want to Have to Learn.

In the 26-chapter book, she mused, “We’re concerned for our own goals for success in the mainstream society. We push forth without much thought of how different we are, until a door slams in front of our face, and life takes us down a different path when it’s least expected.”

As her brother’s ailment worsened, Rosalie Contino knew she had to make sacrifices. Plans were postponed, tears were shed, a promise to take care of her sick brother was made and fulfilled, and lessons were learned.

The book has recently been republished under LitFire Publishing. The book has also been featured in various book events worldwide, such as BookExpo America 2015, AJC Decatur Book Festival 2015, and Frankfurt International Book Fair 2015.
