Mack Payne of Lake Placid, was the keynote speaker at the annual fundraiser event for the National Vietnam War Museum on April 9, 2016. The event was held at the premier Reata Restaurant in Fort Worth, Texas. Speaking to the more than two hundred Museum supporters in attendance, Payne described the important contributions made by the Vietnam Generation to their country in war and peace. He further explained how the soon to be constructed Museum “will be a shining tribute to all Vietnam veteran’s service to their country for all to see, appreciate and discover.” The stated mission of the Museum is: “To promote an understanding of the Vietnam Era while honoring those who served.”

The Museum will be located east of Mineral Wells, Texas on US highway 180 near the site of the now inactive Fort Wolters. The location was chosen due to the fact Vietnam was the first “helicopter war” in history and 40,000 helicopter pilots received their primary flight training at Fort Wolters. They represented 95% of all helicopter pilots who served in Vietnam. Construction of Phase 1 will be 18,000 square feet of a planned 80,000 square foot facility when finished. More funds are needed to get the project started. Interested parties can discover more about the museum at the website: http://www.nationalvnwarmuseum.org

Payne is a professional speaker and author. He is a veteran of two years service in Vietnam with the US Army. One year was on the ground with the 4th Infantry Division and the other as a Cobra gunship pilot with the 101st Airborne Division. His books about Vietnam include Vietnam Veteran Memoirs and Conversations with Vietnam Heroes. Currently he is working on his third book about the scourge of Agent Orange and its shameful legacy from the Vietnam War.
