Drawbridge, the leading cross-device technology company, hosted an open session on Sunday to review and discuss the results of the company’s Cross-Device Connection Challenge at the 2015 IEEE International Conference on Data Mining (ICDM).

“We have great respect for the scientific and technological nature of the problems we’re solving, and we take great pride in being the innovation leaders in our space,” said Drawbridge CTO Devin Guan. “We’ve been studying this specific graph-theory problem for nearly five years, and we wanted to raise interest within the science, research, and academic communities with this contest. We’ve seen many intelligent and creative submissions that have expanded the way we’ll approach this problem in the future.”

Computer Science Professor Lise Getoor from the University of California Santa Cruz delivered a keynote on entity resolution theory and algorithms in and out of academia.

“As the number and variety of ways users can connect and interact with the digital world explodes, there is a pressing need to develop new models for managing digital identity,” Getoor said, following the conference. “The ICDM contest hosted by Drawbridge is a welcomed first step toward gathering together and inspiring researchers to discuss this important problem.”

The Drawbridge Cross-Device Connection Challenge tasked participants with connecting anonymous consumer IDs across different digital devices, without using common personally identifiable consumer information, such as name, email, social handle, or phone number. For the purposes of the competition, Drawbridge synthesized various behavioral observations associated with anonymous IDs from different devices and digital environments. Participants were then asked to provide the likelihood that a set of different IDs from different domains belonged to the same user, and at what performance level. Throughout the three-month contest, Drawbridge received over 2,300 submissions from over 900 researchers on 340 teams.

Seven contest participants presented their papers at the session Sunday covering the various methods used in their submissions. Papers and videos will be posted online shortly.
