Local Author Wants Adolescents to “Give a Darn“ With His Newly Released Book

Chattanooga, Tenn. – WEBWIRE

The title says it all in this new book from local author Nana Bonsu. “Give a Darn” is a unique book that incorporates child-like fancy and practical life lessons to teach young adolescents the price of their actions.

Compiled of three short stories that are beautifully illustrated by the author’s niece, Melony Collins, “Give a Darn” weaves whimsical tales together to encourage readers toward thoughtful actions that benefit the environment and people around them. From the story of a grandfather who goes back to school to help his grandson with homework, to brothers on a quest to save Santa’s North Pole castle from melting due to global warming and, finally, a boy’s dreamy adventure to find the cause as to why chickens don’t fly, Nana’s book is educational, thought-provoking and fun.

Nana’s new release, though illustrated like a children’s book, is targeted toward older children as well as adults. Similar to the book’s first story about a grandfather and grandson doing homework together, the author hopes his book will inspire parents to become more involved with their children’s educations. Inspired by this story and his desire to help youth become caring and productive community members, Nana is planning to use his book as fuel to create an after-school homework program for students needing extra help with their studies.

When he isn’t in Chattanooga writing books, he is performing his professional duties in Ghana, Africa. Though a resident of the Scenic City, Nana Bonsu is also the umbrella chief of Ashanti, a region of Ghana on the west side of the continent bordering the Gulf of Guinea where he is in charge of about 7,000 people. The author travels back and forth for special ceremonies, allowing one of his brothers to sit in his place while he is away. Nana uses his African background in his stories, writing them from a unique perspective and straight-forward style that is reminiscent of folklore and foreign tall tales.

“Give a Darn” is published by Foresight Book Publishing, a Chattanooga-based self-publisher that specializes in inspirational literature and business branding books for professionals of any field.

Richard “Nana” Bonsu is a Chattanooga resident with a passion for making a difference. Wanting the focus to be solely on his writing and not on himself, Nana Bonsu credits all of his work to God for His wisdom and inspiration. “Give a Darn” is his second book. His first book, “Claimed,” tells a fictional story of a man torn between Christian beliefs and the traditions of his country.
