All the stories are based on actual events as seen by the eyes of Gabriel, a young boy who grew up experiencing the plight of poverty.

Are you ready to be entertained by a mixture of facts, stories, and real-life experiences? If you are, then you’re in for a great time reading Vivian Jack’s book entitled “Toco.”  The author used some of the real events that he witnessed when he was at the age of five until he turned fifteen. He then combined it with a small twist of his experiences in order to create a literary work of art.

The story of “Toco” focuses on the Nathaniel family. They live in Toco Village in the Caribbean Islands of Trinidad and Tobago, West Indies during the 1930s and 1940s. All the stories are based on actual events as seen by the eyes of Gabriel, a young boy who grew up experiencing the plight of poverty.

“It is my intention to give people an idea of the culture and day-to-day life of this hardworking, happy, superstitious but religious people in a small village that doesn’t have a record of any serious crime. I wish the readers will get hooked by the story. I hope they will also appreciate the beauty of the island,” the author said.

The book has received marvelous comments from its readers. Some said that they became engrossed in the story as they turn every page. And when they reached the end, they wanted to go back from the start and read it again. That only shows the greatness of the book.

Moreover, according to a book review from Kirkus Reviews, “Readers will be happily lost in this lively, engrossing book about home and family.”
