Harlow Jewelry Opens Boutique and Studio in Northeast Portland

Harlow Jewelry’s first brick and mortar boutique is now open in Northeast Portland. Since 2009, Harlow Jewelry has been providing vintage-inspired, modishly elegant jewelry that is handcrafted in Portland, Oregon, via wholesale and retail outlets. The Harlow Jewelry retail store opened in April 2015 in the thriving NE neighborhood of Northeast 6th Avenue between Couch & Davis, at the Central Eastside Lofts building, providing a convenient location for its open studio and shopping experience.

Harlow Jewelry searches the country for gemstones and colors that feel special, and to find components that aim to have meaning for the person wearing it. Beyond the collection’s unique lines, Harlow Jewelry was born from, and tells a story of women breaking through barriers to recognize their potential.
 
“I believe that we choose jewelry to make a statement about who we are,” said Ruthie Crawford, founder of Harlow Jewelry. “I want to do more than just make jewelry. It’s not as meaningful if we can’t help and inspire each other”.
 
Crawford makes it part of her brand’s mission to support female-focused small businesses, and other organizations like Dress for Success Oregon, to facilitate a community of women helping and empowering each other with confidence, while recognizing individual strengths and capabilities. Crawford does this by providing Harlow accessories and financial support to the organization, to assist women in the program who are embarking on career searches, and seeking self-sufficiency. Crawford also provides annual auction donations to Basic Rights Oregon, Human Rights Campaign, and The Pixie Project, on behalf of Harlow Jewelry.
 
“The shop is a really special place with a lot of attention to details aside from the jewelry. My hope is that people will become inspired and encouraged when they walk in the door, and find something at Harlow to make them keep that feeling when they leave,” said Crawford.

Founder Ruthie Crawford became a jewelry maker by happy accident during a difficult period of career uncertainty, caring for her newborn daughter (Olivia Harlow, after whom the company is named), and ending a relationship.
