New Study Shows Physical Therapy Treatment for Infertility Can Help Women Get Pregnant
Women are now trying physical therapy before IVF treatment to boost fertility, even if they have endometriosis or PCOS.
Manual physical therapy techniques, such as visceral mobilization, are used to help increase the mobility of the internal organs and abdominal wall. Ryan says: "The theory is that if you can improve movement restrictions, you can improve the overall function of the internal organs, including the ovaries, fallopian tubes and uterus.”
A new study published in the Alternative Therapies Journal shows that using a special physical therapy technique is less expensive and not as invasive as traditional fertility treatment. 40 to 60 percent of the women in this study experienced success in getting pregnant.
Infertility can be devastating and it affects 11% of women in the US. Approximately 7.4 million women in the US spend tons of money on invasive infertility treatments.
“This type of physical therapy treatment is different then when you go for common orthopedic problems such as lower back pain and an ankle injury,” says the author of Baby Bod, Marianne Ryan PT. Manual physical therapy techniques, such as visceral mobilization, are used to help increase the mobility of the internal organs and abdominal wall. Ryan says: “The theory is that if you can improve movement restrictions, you can improve the overall function of the internal organs, including the ovaries, fallopian tubes and uterus.”
Women with endometriosis and PCOS are given new hope, 43% of the women with endometriosis and 53% of the women with PCOS were able to get pregnant after treatment.
