Applicants, who are required to attend an accredited college, university, or other recognized school full-time during the 2015–2016 school year, were judged on multiple criteria that included a written essay, academic achievements, and involvement in school and extracurricular activities.

Scholarship winners are:

  • Rachel Timmons, who enters her junior year at Virginia Tech this fall. Rachel received the 2015 Kathryn R. Coleman Scholarship Award.
  • Elizabeth Dolack, who received the CommonWealth One Scholarship Award for Harrisonburg area high school students. Elizabeth will be a freshman at Virginia Tech this fall.
  • Erika Donis, who received the Kathryn R. Coleman Scholarship Award for a graduating high school senior. Erika will be a freshman at Virginia Tech in the fall.

“Recently, we expanded our scholarship program from two to now five $1,000 scholarships,” said Susanne Waltemyer, Business Development Manager at CommonWealth One. “The increase is the result of our more active role in the communities we serve, as well as a strong emphasis on financial education,” she added.

The scholarships honor former President & CEO, Kathryn R. Coleman, a much loved and highly respected figure in the credit union movement who wielded significant influence on the local and national credit union scene for 40 years.
