These en masse deportations will again devastate our nation, its economy and now, its vital relationship with the neighboring Dominican Republic.

DESCRIPTION: Thousands of Haitian nationals have for decades fled to the Dominican Republic due to a lack of employment opportunity, proper agriculture cultivation, education and basic healthcare in the Republic of Haiti. Subsequently, hundreds of thousands of individuals of Haitian descent, many having never visited their neighbor and would-be ’homeland’, now reside and are an intregral component of the Dominican Republic and its social fabric.
The mass deportations being enforced by Dominican Republic President Medina and Immigration Minister Sem are fundamental violations of human rights. This should be a critical opportunity in Haitian history to advocate for those descendants that are proud of their heritage and press for blanket amnesty and a smooth regularization transitional period for citizens that are vitial to both nations’ socioeconomy.
