But all this began to change after one fateful, late night internet search. Michael found a crew member who knew some of what happened to his older brother the day of his disappearance.

The pain of not knowing what happened to a loved one can haunt you for a lifetime. This is how Michael Darter’s family suffered for years following the death of his older brother. No matter how much they want to know what happened to him on a tragic day during his service in the midst of World War II.

As an American patriot, Eugene Darter (Michael’s older brother) served in the 8th Air Force during the WWII as a member of the B-17 crew over Germany.  This assignment turned out to be the most dangerous US military unit during WWII. On his first combat mission over in Bremen, Germany, he was reported to be missing as their Flying Fortress was badly hit and vanished. Eugene’s family mourned his disappearance for years but they can’t seem to move on from their loss since they didn’t know the real story of his death or proof he had died. All they have to believe are minimal information provided by the government through a few letters.

But all this began to change after one fateful, late night internet search. Michael found a crew member who knew some of what happened to his older brother the day of his disappearance. And this has started his quest on a 14-year cold case investigation that brought closure for his family after more than 60 years.

Through his research, he tracked down surviving members of the crew, found a former wife of the MIA pilot and most amazingly, an actual eyewitness who saw his brother’s final moments. They all have their own stories to share; tales of heroism, pain, love, loss and miracles.

“Gone With The Wind, He Said” is the perfect proof of the old adage, “If there’s a will, there’s a way”. For Michael and his family, it seemed impossible at first to know the real story about his brother. But they never gave up, so should all other families looking for MIA loved ones lost because of war and other catastrophes.

This book is not just another war story on the shelf. But according to Michael O’ Connor, one of the top reviewers in Amazon.com: “There are books and then there are labors of love like ‘Gone with the Wind, He Said.’ Part detective story, part war story, it’s a compelling, well-written tribute to a brave, young man who went to war and never returned… until now. Highly recommended.”

So, for those of you interested in readingstories about families affected by war, heroism in a tumultuous time and never giving up amidst the difficulties, then grab a copy of “Gone With The Wind, He Said.” And be amazed to discover how powerful family love and hope can be.
