And if you’re an adult, it might just make you believe in magic again.”

Author Richard J. Ward’s The Strange Adventures of Gilbert and Jade continues with the second book in the series, The Bully and the Leprechaun. The series is about best friends Gilbert and Jade who live in a small village close to the seaside, surrounded by rolling green hills. Jade lives on a farm with her parents, while Gilbert, the mayor’s son, spends most of his time experimenting in his home’s basement.

In this book, the pair have a heated argument over the existence of fairies. After meeting a strange but lovable little man, Jade is cast into the dark magical place where she confronts a particularly nasty bully. How she confronts this bully and how she gets back to Gilbert to tell her story will surely capture the hearts of readers.

Reviewer Rebecca Ross thinks that Richard Ward does a wonderful job of pulling young readers in with his easy, flowing style and touches of whimsy and humor, “The theme of bullying is a common one in children’s literature and also, unfortunately, a necessary one. It is nice to see a young female character defeat her bully without fighting, while at the same time staying true to her own mission which, in this case, is proving the existence of magic to her cynical friend Gilbert.”

She continues, “The Bully and the Leprechaun” is a charming story that will capture young readers with fun characters and exciting adventures. And if you’re an adult, it might just make you believe in magic again.”
