Breckenridge Village Woodshop Club Creates and Donates 2,000th Cross

Breckenridge Village, a not-for-profit continuing care retirement community, is proud to announce that the members of the Woodshop Club will soon be completing the construction of the 2,000th ergonomically designed, wooden cross. The crosses fit comfortably into the hands of individuals with impaired hand mobility, and are shared with those who may be experiencing a loss, illness or traumatic event in their lives.

“The sanded, unfinished tulip poplar wood of each cross is transformed by the oils and sweat of the owner’s hand, making it personal and unique to that individual,” said Don Grauer, Chaplain at Breckenridge.

The Caring Cross is a tangible symbol of faith for persons going through situations of stress, e.g., illness, bereavement, unemployment, family discord, etc.,“ said Grauer. ”Recipients have called it ’something I can hold on to’ in moments of loss or fear or uncertainty"

In honor of reaching this milestone, the 2,000th cross will be presented to Jack Beckwith, Willoughby Chief of Police, on St. Patrick’s Day, Tuesday, March 17, 2015 during a pancake breakfast at 36851 Ridge Road. Willoughby’s finest police and fire department personnel will be flipping and serving pancakes to hundreds of Breckenridge Village residents.

The fun and festivities start at 9 a.m. and continue until 11:30 a.m. The event marks the oldest tradition at the not-for-profit retirement community which is one of the largest employers in the Willoughby area. Willoughby’s safety forces will also be joined by Mayor David Anderson for the holiday breakfast. The media is invited to attend the pancake breakfast and partake in this fabulous photo opportunity – and breakfast will be provided!
