ABIH Travels to China to Promote the Certified Industrial Hygienist® Program

The American Board of Industrial Hygiene® (ABIH®) administers the internationally recognized Certified Industrial Hygienist® (CIH®) program.

Lansing, MI – WEBWIRE

Our face-to-face meetings have created new relationships and opened new doors that will benefit ABIH and the CIH program as our opportunities to collaborate in the world’s most populous country continues to grow.

Last month, representatives from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene traveled to China to discuss the Certified Industrial Hygienist program with practitioners, educators, and government officials.  Representing ABIH in China were Ulric Chung, MCS, Ph.D., Chief Executive Officer at ABIH; Nicole Greeson, CIH, ABIH Vice Chair; and Dave Roskelley, CIH, CSP, ABIH Director. The trip included presentations and meetings in both Beijing and Shanghai.

There were numerous productive meetings during the trip, including an opportunity to sit down with representatives of the China Safety Engineering Education Accreditation Commission.  This commission was established in 2008 and falls under the non-government, non-profit China Engineering Education Accreditation Association (CEEAA).  Currently, CEEAA accredits over 35 engineering program types that include safety-related and environmental-related engineering programs.

The delegation attended the 7th China International Forum on Work Safety where Nicole Greeson co-presented with the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) on “Public Supervision of Workplace Safety through Accreditation and Certification.”  David Roskelley also presented on ethics and professional judgment, incorporating ABIH and the ABIH Code of Ethics in a talk entitled “Professional Judgment in a ‘Flattening World"

ABIH and the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) also co-sponsored an Industrial Hygiene Forum in Shanghai.  CIHs from across China and those interested in learning more about the CIH program attended.

“There is tremendous growth potential for ABIH and the CIH program in China and beyond,” said Nicole Greeson, Vice Chair of ABIH.  “This trip allowed us to meet with high-ranking Chinese government officials, educators, and industrial hygiene professionals from across the nation.  Our face-to-face meetings have created new relationships and opened new doors that will benefit ABIH and the CIH program as our opportunities to collaborate in the world’s most populous country continues to grow.”
