Cancer May Link to Meat Consumption, Recent Study Reveals

Pompano Beach, Florida – WEBWIRE

Various studies suggest the existence of a link between excessive consumption of red meat and an increased risk of developing of breast cancer, bladder cancer, stomach cancer and pancreatic cancer. The risk for colorectal cancer is also increased by high consumption of meat and cold cuts, precooked or cured meat (such as  sausages or meat loaves) which are sliced and served cold on sandwiches or on party trays.

The problem becomes worst when the meat (including fish) is cooked directly over the fire (grilled meat). Doing so involves the formation of carcinogenic and mutagens compounds (compounds that can damage DNA of the cells), which makes it more dangerous than smoking or even drinking, Said Dr. S.M. Chandramohan, professor and head, Department of Surgical Gastroenterology.

A recent European study showed that people who eat 160 grams of red meat per day increase by a third the risk of developing intestinal cancer, compared to those eating less meat. Similarly, people who consume very little red meat and lot of fruits and vegetables have less risk of developing bowel cancer, according to the doctors and nutritionists of the research team.

Another recent study has found that men who consume lot of red meat are at higher risk for developing aggressive prostate cancer.” Men who ate the most ground beef were 2.3 times more likely than men who ate none to have aggressive prostate cancer”. In addition, high consumption of pork meat and fat was also associated with an increase in cancer risk.

Excessive consumption of beef or poultry, not only promote cancer risks but also weight gain, and risk of cardiovascular disease as well as diabetes, premature aging, and many other health problems. A recent study published by the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition has showed that people who consumed 250 g daily of red, white or deli meat, gain an average of 2 kg after 5 years.

Therefore, the study concluded that it is better to reduce the amount of meat consumed to prevent weight gain in the long term; and reduce the risk of diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular accidents (stroke, heart attack…), and other serious medical conditions. Eating NON-GMO fruits and vegetables daily along with regular exercise is the best way to stay healthy and main a radiant and youthful look.
