Atos, an international IT services company and Worldwide IT Partner for the IOC and IPC, today announced that with the successful launch of the volunteer portal, the technology for the Rio 2016 Games is on track. From now to the end of the Rio 2016 Games, Atos will lead and integrate the contributions of all technology partners and suppliers to deliver seamless and secure technology operations and services that provide instant communications to athletes, spectators, organizers, officials, media, television viewers and Internet users worldwide.

The launch of the volunteer portal is the first major technology milestone for Atos for the Rio 2016 Games. This Atos technology was first used by the Torino Organizing Committee for the 2006 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. Since then it has been updated and improved for each subsequent Games and supports the whole volunteering process from application through to selection and ultimately managing the rotas for all 70,000 volunteers.

“Technology will be a core deliverable in the Rio 2016 Games. Sport + Brazilian Hospitality + Memorable Celebrations all wrapped up with state of the art technology is the formula that will help us to build the first Summer Olympic Games in South America,” says Elly Resende, Technology Director for Rio 2016. “Atos proved again to be the ideal IT partner for this journey. And there is a lot more to come in the next 2 years”

Michèle Hyron, Chief Integrator for the Rio 2016 Games and who also successfully led the IT team at the London 2012 Games, as Chief Integrator, commented: “The volunteer portal is our first technology milestone for the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games and we are delighted that we have been able to help process 85,000 applications to date.”
