Chinese Adventure Sparks Three Books

Never too late to change your life

Brisbane – WEBWIRE

“It is never too late to start over, to ’learn new tricks’, or to recreate yourself in a completely different country."

After living five decades, Brisbane’s Tove Vine knew if she did not do something exciting with her life, she would live with regret forever.

Ten years ago she did something to remedy that feeling. She sold up and packed up, moving to China to live and work as an English teacher.

Now the owner of 12 schools in China (she opened a new one this week) and a much loved teacher, Tove is a proponent of ‘you only live once’ and it is never too late to dream big.

Tove said she before decided to leave for China, her life was ok. “I always made the best out of life but I knew something was missing,” she said.

“I had a dream I wanted to follow to teach and to visit China.

“My friends thought I was crazy to try to start over in my late 50s. They thought I was giving up a stable predictable life.”

That life was a safe trap. Tove studied for the TESOL certificate at ATA TESOL College in Milton in 2003. After she graduated, she travelled to Guangzhou—one of the largest cities in China—and began teaching English to young Chinese students.

Tove said she has never felt so rewarded and fulfilled in her life. “It was not long until I opened my own English school - Miss Tove’s English School,” she said.

“I did not want my life set in stone…even as an adult.  I wanted adventure and to live my dreams…and I did not think my age should stop me from doing that.

“It takes a lot of courage to change your life in a dramatic way. It is scary as you go into the unknown and you do not know what awaits you, what challenges and surprised there may be ahead.

“However on the positive side you do not know either how many wonderful experiences and adventures that awaits you out there in the unknown. In the end it is really up to you to decide if your experiences will be positive or negative.

“It is never too late to start over, to ’learn new tricks’, or to recreate yourself in a completely different country.

“If anyone tells you differently, give them a copy of my book TIC – This Is China.”

Tove has since written two more books, MAD – Making A Difference and GAP – Get A Purpose. Not only does she teach English in China, but in her holidays she travels to other Asian countries volunteering at orphanages.
