LA Testing’s Pasadena Lab Now CDC ELITE Approved

LA Testing is proud to announce that its Pasadena laboratory has been certified by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for the Environmental Legionella Isolation Techniques Evaluation (ELITE) Program. The ELITE Program allows laboratories to test Legionella isolation techniques against standardized samples. As a member of the program, LA Testing will have access to individualized performance reports, the latest CDC policies and guidelines, and CDC staff scientists to help optimize isolation procedures.
 
“Legionella outbreaks and causes are often times very complex,” said Joe Frasca, Senior Vice President of Marketing at LA Testing. “It’s important for LA Testing to have prime access to sampling techniques as well as information regarding this potentially deadly bacteria in order to better serve California and its surrounding states.”
 
Legionella is a gram negative, rod-shaped bacterium that can cause Legionnaires’ disease or flu-like illnesses. It was first identified and recognized as causing disease during the outbreak that occurred in conjunction with the American Legion Convention in Philadelphia in 1976. There are over 40 species of Legionella and 18 of those can cause disease. It is estimated that the species Legionella pneumophila causes most of the infections.
